  • Singapore Sling

End of week 1 in a two week company training course – leadership and strategy.  Staying at the Rasa Sentosa Singapore. Not much time to look around. Full-on days from 8:30am – 6:30pm. We had a fantastic lecturer/facilitator, Bill Fischer, who happened to be a Yankee’s fan. Had fun checking the Yankee’s series during the class but upset they again failed in the 1st round of the post-season. Looks like it’s Joe Torre’s last. Great run.

Had dinner with a colleague and her husband last night and then having a quiet Saturday morning. Woke up at an obscene 6am (!!!) by my own and surfing the web and catching up on all my readings. Time for some breakfast and arrange to see my relatives here.

Then later tonight we start up with week 2 of the course focusing on hands-on leadership. No evening breaks so it’ll be pretty intensive.

So much to catch up and do though….

  • Blast from the past – check!

Someone who is a great guy and showed me so much…. Read about Russian Paul. Now I know approximately how old he is hah!

  • Weirdness weather

Am in Beijing today and tomorrow, flying back through Typhoon Wipra perhaps on Wednesday.

Was a strange weather experience.  Overcast this morning and hazy. Ok but then the weather took a turn for the nasty ugly.  After lunch time, the weather turned darker and from the 19th floor, couldn’t see anything. By 3pm, it was like night time/midnight.

Air quality was noticeably stuffy.  Autumn is supposedly the best time for Beijing.  Temperature wise, it is very comfortable.   It’s the other stuff that makes it difficult to handle.

Last night, supper with one of my colleagues. We went to grilled meat place Beijing style.  Think of it like a Beijing style churrasco.  I even tried grilled silkworms. Tasty actually, but the crunchy skin was a little difficult to take.  It was like eating shrimp skin that was fried/grilled.  A little tough and not a fun experience.  Taste was good admittedly.  Will try again I think.

    ready silkworms for grilling!

  • On the road jack!

I’m back at it again. Transiting through Taoyuan, Taipei, Taiwan….. Just came back from a 2 day excursion to Korea, Jeju Island. What a fantastic little island that has great vacation to-dos. I went there for a team building with my new colleagues from Korea. Great Korea food that busted the gut, too much Jinro soju (F C should know this pretty well ;)) and lots of good learnings and discussions.

We did ATV and live round shooting. I scored a 75 out of 120 on the pistol (used a HK issue 9mm) but rocked on the rifle shooting with a 119 out of 120. First round missed the mark pretty wide. I’ve a future as a Marine sharpshooter if this tech thing doesn’t work out…. haha. I’m going to put them up on my office walls :). First time doing it and I gotta say, it was a rush. Almost like how I read about shooting. You’re supposed to gently squeeze the trigger, not yank it otherwise the recoil will make your shot go all over the place. You breath slowly and squeeze the trigger and bam bam bam, pretty much hits the place you’re aiming at. Way cool!

  • A dash of Tabasco sauce please…..

    You’re an Oyster!
You don’t have a ton of complexity or identity on your own, so you’ve made an effort to focus on making a nice and sturdy house. It gives you the appearance of being interesting as well as a good place to hide from your critics and those who might expose your secrets. At least you can remind us all of what humble beginnings we’ve all come from. People associate you with really good crackers.

So I’m back on the road again. This past week, one day trip to HK for a meeting. Then flying off to HK again this weekend. Next week to Korea’s Jeju Island for some team building exercises. Jeju island apparently is the honeymoon getaway for many Korean newlyweds. We’ll see how it is…. excited for my first Korea visit!

Mixed views of the added travels for Sept. More HK and Beijing as well before a week long holiday with the B-‘s family end of the month.

    Fun stuff….

    You’re Siddhartha!
    by Hermann Hesse
You simply don’t know what to believe, but you’re willing to try
anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you’ve spent
some time in every camp. But you still don’t have any idea what camp you belong in.
This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It’s
time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in
    ferries.

  • Checking in

Been awhile, just so busy with stuff at work, I’d forgotten to check back here. Time has just went a big “whooooooooooooosssshhhhh” :o! Anyways, what prompted me to blab was I caught some old AsianAvenue.com spam mail and found “AngryAsianMan.com” tie-in with AA. I’m like WTF?! Unbelievable, I guess things just don’t ever change, but people in their old age move on and get on with the more important things in life.

Will be an interesting summer…. lots of work stuff coming down the pike. I’ve got my seat belt buckle on.

    Keep cool folks!

  • Interesting

B- went back to the US early this morning…. Had the whole day to sleep and was wonderfully relaxing and alone….

This is one of the NYT best articles I’ve read recently.

Came across this very interesting fellow named Dale and his cast of friends @ Distract.

Hope everyone is doing well and a good April’s Fools day 🙂

  • Happy CNY from Malaysia 🙂

37 years and I’ve finally been able to celebrate Chinese New Year with my relatives in Malaysia :).  It’s a nice feeling.  Got to see some lion dances and firecrackers.  Eat lots of good food and relax from work!

    Life is pretty good!
