  • Famous people a way of life

One of the cool things about Taiwan is the fact that it’s easy to meet famous people, like movie stars.

    Chin Han

Chin Han with leading lady Bridgette Lin

We were playing hoops at National Taiwan University and his old-school buddies came over and took us to school. The bell hasn’t stopped ringing.

We’ll try again next week 🙂

  • What’s your Political Compass?

Nifty. I think it hit me spot on (as far as these kinds of things go). Your Political Compass

    My results were:
    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: 0.13
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.15

Yeah, I’d say so. I’m as centrist as you can get :p (at least I try hard at being a moderate)

  • Update

Been a really hectic September. Flew to KL twice and back going through Changi and HK on the way back. Cathay’s hub in HK is nice but the layover can get really long and tiring. B- and I just finished moving out of our old place and into our new place. it’ll take a lot of work to bring it up to speed but it’s bigger, and has more of a home feel. We’ll turn this place into a home office and maybe rent out one of the rooms out.

Taipei can get really dirty and this place is no exception. The filth is overwhelming and clean up is slow. Nevertheless, we got static IP with our internet connection through Taiwan Fixed Network which was offering half off the other TW competitors. Just bought a wifi router for the place and will slowly put everything up.

  • Grand Challenge

My alma mater got mentioned prominently in this article. Not surprising since my school is the leader in this area. But the stakes got raised this year and looks to be much more competitive from the boys out West.

    Go Tartans!

  • On the move

Well, a short announcement that I’m moving. But it’s just right down the street from where I am. It’s a 4th floor walkup that’s lets me do the home office thing.

B- will be back from M’sia tomorrow.

  • Beat the Typhoon!

This year typhoon season has come fast and furious to Taiwan. Latest Typhoon Talim and another (Nabi) right behind it is bearing down on us. Here’s another graphic of the storm tracking.

Meanwhile, B- and I are rushing to get on the first flight out of here to make an appointment with the US Embassy in KL end of this week. Originally booked on MAS direct to KL on Sept 1st but due to Talim, we’ve had to reroute ourselves to Singapore on JetstarAsia then bus it up to KL a day earlier. Hope we can make it!!!

Why all this? Our spousal visa application is due. It’s been quite the stressful time. Wish us well.

  • I’ll be on radio!

The Taiwan expat community is starting a new radio station. The former ICRT here has become localized. So the expat folks are starting WWRN (World Wide Radio Network) which will go life on the FM dial September 1st. My show will be on the air tomorrow at 12 noon Taipei time (12 midnight EST). I run it through Windows Media Player. If that doesn’t work well (it doesn’t for me) then in WMF, you need to Ctrl-U and input http://wwrn.mine.nu:8000 and it’ll work.

Let me know how it is 🙂

  • Kim Il Jong’s blog

A friend showed this to me. It’s pretty hilarious read. Mark of a bi-polar, multiple personality person or just plain genious :).

  • What state are you?

    You’re North Dakota!
You are rather remote, and even inaccessible to the average person. While many would thus describe you as stuck-up, to you it seems more like you’re just stuck. When no one is looking, you yearn to engage in 19th-century European political subterfuge. When looking for peace, head for the garden. But please, be extremely careful around wood-chippers.
